<![CDATA[Water Stones]]>
Unlike man-made stones, water rather than oil is used on Japanese stones to prevent the surface from being clogged with metal particles. The coarse stones are 250, 800, 1000, and 1200 grit. The 250 and 800 grit are faster cutting and used for repairing nicked edges or reshaping a bevel. The 1000 or 1200 grit stones are used for the first stage of the actual sharpening to be followed by 4000 and perhaps 8000. Japanese water stones are softer than Western styles causing a fresh, sharp surface to be continually exposed to the tool edge but needing to be flattened regularly.

Since this jig is transparent, layout is much simpler. Just set the two parts together and strike a line across the center of the joint. The see-through reference lines allows you to line up the jig perfectly. Clamp it in place, drill and youre done!

The right hand model has the flat face on the left hand side of the axe so that you can chop flush on the right side of the workpiece. <![CDATA[10 Bench Rabbet - Kamal]]>
This plane is similar to the Lie Nielsen but it lacks tilting handles (you will whack your knuckles repeatedly if you use this for cleaning up timberframing tenons) It also lacks the cross grain nickers for clean cross cutting. Fit and Finish are not comparable to the Lie-Nielsen, but neither is the price.

The No. 10 Bench Rabbet is nearly identical to a No. 5 Jack plane, but its sides are left open and the iron is shaped to cut flush with the side of the plane. It can create rabbets or raised panels from scratch, and it's very handy for planing flush to adjacent surfaces. Traditionally used for cutting lap joints on house siding, carriages and boats. 12-3/4" long, 2-11/16" wide iron.

<![CDATA[Power Tenon Cutters - Veritas]]>
These cut round tenons on the end or branches, logs or stock lumber. They are handy not so much for timberframing directly, but for creating accents that go along with a timber frame (railings, furniture...).

For anyone building rustic furniture, the Veritas aluminum-body tenon cutters will cut smooth, perfect tenons with radiused shoulders. Cutters are designed to run vibration free while being driven by an electric drill, yet still yield the same accuracy when used with a hand brace. The anodized body has been balanced to eliminate vibration and an integral level vial makes in-line cutting more accurate. To increase safety, the back end of the blade is contoured to avoid anything extending beyond the revolving aluminum body. The body has a built-in honing guide for easy sharpening of blades on a drill-press mounted drum sander. The blade is adjustable to cut the exact size of tenon required in both dry and green wood. Available in eight cutting diameters. Sizes 5/8" to 1" cut 2-3/4" long tenons and are typically used for most rustic furniture. Sizes 1-1/4" to 2" will cut 4-1/4" long tenons and are used for larger structural connections, such as bed frame to post, or fence rail to post. All sizes have hex shanks; sizes 5/8" to 1" are for use in an electric drill with a 3/8" (or larger) chuck. Sizes 1-1/4" to 2", which require more torque to drive, are for use in larger electric drills with a 1/2" (or larger) chuck. Not for use in a drill press.

Handy and fast to use without the extra expense of the much wider Makita.

The powerful 6.5 amp motor runs the versatile two-blade Woodrazor system at 16,500 rpm with a protective shield that covers the section of blade that's not in use. The fence itself deserves applause--bevels are accurate and easy to adjust. We love the chip ejection as well. Too many times, we've tried tools with an exhaust system that might as well not be there, but this one actually moves the removed stock and it's multidirectional! Deep cuts are possible in just one pass without bogging or chatter. There's even a spring-loaded park rest stand that protects blade and workpiece.

A really well designed hammer drill.

Packing 8.5 amps of torque power, the Bosch 1/2" Dual Torque Hammer Drill will plough through any masonry that comes its way. Its compact and ergonomic design feels good in hand for less operator fatigue. A dual mode selector easily converts from rotation to hammer-drill mode. A two-speed gearbox (0-1,100/0-3,000 rpm, and 0-18,000/0-48,000 bpm) lets you adjust the speed and torque for a variety of applications. With a unique cord turret that pivots 35 degrees, you’ll have more freedom to move around. A rotating brush plate provides equal power in forward and reverse, and an integral slip clutch helps minimize wrist-torque. This kit includes 360-degree handle, depth gauge, and case.

<![CDATA[18 Lithium Drill and Imact Driver]]>
I own this set and really like it. Plenty of power, compact design and a super fast charger. Even when doing heavy boring on a timber, by the time the first battery is dead, the second battery is fully re-charged.

Combo kit offers best power-to-weight ratio for both driver-drill and impact driver. * 1/2 Driver-Drill delivers 450 in. lbs. of efficient torque in a compact size and weighs only 3.5 lbs. * Impact Driver provides 1,280 in. lbs. of maximum torque and weighs only 2.8 lbs.

<![CDATA[10-1/4 Rabbet Plane - Lie Nielsen]]>
This plane is really the perfect tool for cleaning up tenons, shoulders and even haunches.

For those unfamiliar with it, the blade goes right up to both edges of the plane so it can cut flush. It also had retractable cross grain knickers to pre-cut the path of a cross grain rabbet or wide dado. The handles tilt so that you can use it without whacking your knuckles on the timber. There is NO substitute

<![CDATA[10-1/4 Bench Rabbet Plane - Lie Nielsen]]>
Some people may scoff that I put this plane in as a Timber Framing Tool. It is not a mistake on my part.

There are pre-war Stanley's out there that are well made, but the tilting handles are often broken and there were NO cross grain knickers, so in this case I highly recommend going right to this tool as a new purchase. I'd buy this one again in a heartbeat for my next timber framing project. It is well worth the price and way better than any "power tool." I consider it an essential timber framing tool.

<![CDATA[Froe]]>
Used by colonial settlers to split shingles, shakes, and lumber for homes in early America. The shingle froe is still a primary tool in many traditional woodworking projects which require riving, like Windsor chair spindles and spoons. * Simply pound the blade of the froe into the end of a short log with a mallet or maul. * Then pull back on the handle to split off a slice of the wood with the grain. * Handle is 18" long. * Blade is 15" long and 2" deep. * Roughly finished. * Made in the USA.
