This plane is not as useful in Timberframing as the Carriage maker's rabbet, but it is less expensive and much easier to fit in a toolbelt. It can be very handy for cleaning up tenons.

Lie-Nielsen's No. 60-1/2R Rabbet Block Plane is a low-angle (12°) block plane with open sides and an iron shaped for rabbeting and trimming joints to perfection. Iron and sole are 1-3/4" wide; total length is 6-1/4". The body is unbreakable ductile iron, and the lever cap is polished bronze. Weighs 1-3/4 lbs.
